As noted previously, I’ve put my Star Wars Retrospective aside for the time being, as my priorities have shifted.

Story writing is another one of my hobbies. For a while though, I was going through a major creative writing burnout. And so because of that, I was writing a lot of reviews instead. After my massive Land Before Time Retrospective in 2019 & 2020, I had decided to tackle Star Wars next. It was only a short distance into it however when my creative mojo for story writing returned. I decided to switch my focus back to that, and so my plans for my epic-long Star Wars Retrospective have been put on indefinite hold.

Still, I’ve decided to document/archive what my ideas for the retrospective were. Originally, I was going to go by story chronological order, at least with the earlier installments. Since initially, there was the Prequel, Original, and Sequel Trilogies, along with one adjacent animated show for each of them (The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Resistance respectively). Once Disney+ launched, and with it came a whole bunch of new TV show announcements, I was going to cover those by release order instead.

And so, my order of reviews was going to look like this:

Pre-Disney+ era:

0. My Star Wars Story
1. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
2. Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones
3. Star Wars: The Clone Wars (film)
4. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 1
5. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 2
6. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 3
7. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 4
8. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 5
9. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 6
10. The Clone Wars Legacy
11. Star Wars: The Clone Wars – Season 7 [even though this season is technically in the Disney+ era, but I was still going to review it here anyway]
12. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith
13. Solo: A Star Wars Story
14. Star Wars Rebels – Season 1
15. Star Wars Rebels – Season 2
16. Star Wars Rebels – Season 3
17. Star Wars Rebels – Season 4
18. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
19. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
20. Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back
21. Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi
22. Star Wars Resistance – Season 1
23. Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens
24. Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi
25. Star Wars Resistance – Season 2
26. Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker
27. The Sequel Trilogy. What is its narrative purpose? Was it necessary?

Disney+ era:

28. Disney Investor Day 2020 Announcements
29. The Mandalorian – Season 1
30. The Mandalorian – Season 2
31. Star Wars: The Bad Batch – Season 1
32. Star Wars: Visions – Volume 1
33. Overview and evolution of lightsaber designs in the franchise
34. The Book of Boba Fett
35. Obi-Wan Kenobi

And then from there, I’d review each new film and TV season in the order they came out.

I still love Star Wars and so I feel like I’ll probably come back to try and complete my retrospective at some point. Or at the very least to do something else SW-related. I’m just not sure when.

If and when I revive this project, I was debating between three different options regarding the review order:

A. Stick to my original plan.
B. Since more time will have passed by the time I get back to this, I thought of doing an updated story chronological order, accommodating everything that’d been released so far up to that point. Then, for future releases, I’d likely cover those by release order as they came out. Albeit, I’m not sure what a good cut-off point would be between chronological and release order, if I could find a new cut-off point as good as the pre and post-Disney+ eras.
C. Do the entire thing in release order from the get-go, starting with the Original Trilogy, then the Prequel Trilogy, The Clone Wars, Rebels, etc. This option might make the most sense, but I’ll see how I feel when I get there.
